Bear Creek Wind Farm
(PA)
Global Winds
Harvest began developing the Bear Creek project in 1999 and in
2002 partnered with Community Energy, Inc, a leading wind power
marketer. Officially commissioned in 2006, the power is now
being sold under a 20-year power purchase agreement to PPL
EnergyPlus, LLC, an entity owned by Pennsylvania Power &
Light Corporation.
Located just southeast of
Wilkes-Barre, PA,
the project's 12 turbines are readily visible from the
Pennsylvania Turnpike on top of the windy Pocono
Mountains. Each of the 2MW turbines was built by
Gamesa. The towers are each 262 feet high and have a rotor
diameter of 269 feet. The entire 24MW facility produces enough
clean energy on average to power over 7,000
homes.
